GMC Plant Celebrates Millionth Vehicle

The 3,700 employees of the Lansing Delta Township General Motors Plant in Michigan certainly had a lot to celebrate in November as a Crystal Red Tintcoat GMC Acadia Denali rolled off the production line. The Denali was the one-millionth vehicle produced at the plant, which is the youngest of General Motor's plants.

The first vehicle produced at this plant rolled off the line on May 25, 2006. Since then, the LEED-certified plant has produced an average of just under 300,000 vehicles each year. With workers on three shifts, Plant Manager Scott Whybrew acknowledged the vast resources it takes to accomplish one million cars. He says, "This milestone shows the dedication of our team members to provide the highest-quality crossovers...Our team has established a strong foundation by continually improving our plant operations in order to exceed the expectations of our customers."1

Whybrew isn't the only one applauding the hard work of the employees, either. Union chairman Rick Martinez says of the employees, "Producing the millionth vehicle would not be possible without the great people we have here...our employees are highly trained, and we couldn't create the models with such high quality without our people."2

The Lansing Delta Township plant manufactures four other General Motors crossovers, including the GMC Acadia and the Acadia Denali. The Denali model debuted just this year, tapping into the luxury side of the crossover market. The enhanced SUV features the trademarks of the Denali line, including a chrome honeycomb grille, monochromatic exterior, and finely finished interior.
