Safely Drive Your GMC This Winter

Even the best drivers in the safest vehicles can get taken by surprise by a winter storm or icy road conditions. If you're currently shopping for a new car in the Brunswick, GA area, winter driving is probably playing a big role in your decision. Lucky for you, all 2012 GMC models come standard with StabiliTrak with traction control, anti-lock brakes, tire pressure monitoring and OnStar connectivity to help keep you and your passengers safe year round.

But even if you drive a super-safe GMC Terrain or GMC Acadia, Mother Nature can deliver unpredictable, icy, snow-packed roads - so it's important to be prepared in case of the worst.

Let's start with vehicle traction. Summer tires are never appropriate for winter driving - you're much safer with a properly inflated set of all-seasons with decent tread. If you plan to do a lot of driving in snowy conditions, get yourself a set of good winter tires, they will provide the safest ride. Need to change your tires? Or maybe you aren't sure if they're probably aligned, rotated and inflated? Don't take any chances, contact the Nalley Buick GMC service department to make an appointment with a GM-Trained Certified Service Technician.

As far as preventing an accident, take the same precautions you would all year. Make sure your mirrors, seat and steering wheel are adjusted so you're comfortable and have wide visibility. Keep your eyes far ahead on the road to catch upcoming dangerous road conditions or sudden changes from other drivers. Use an ice-scraper to ensure you can see properly out of all of your windows, keep a set of jumper cables in your trunk, and maybe a shovel and a tow-strap in case you come across somebody else who is stuck.

What if you're the one who is stuck? Use your cell phone or your OnStar equipped GMC to call for help. And then sit tight. Keep extra warm clothes and/or a blanket in your car, a flashlight and extra batteries, food and water and a small first aid kit in your vehicle. Hopefully you won't ever have to use those this winter, but it's better to be prepared.

Taking some small steps to be prepared will ensure your safety this season. That said, if you have any questions about winter driving, please contact Nalley Buick GMC via our website or by phone at 888-885-3476.
